Fire Protection System Permits
Select the type of permit you need:
Submittal Requirements
To apply for a fire alarm permit, the following is required:
- Floor plan with device layout
- Device specifications
- Zone Map
- Battery calculations - for new systems or anytime there will be significant impacts to battery loads on other projects.
- New Systems: Construction plans shall be approved and stamped by a registered Fire Protection or Electrical Engineer [KAC 8-29-015] prior to submittal to the Fire Department, verifying the system meets NFPA 72 requirements.
- System Modifications: All construction documents shall be reviewed by a NICET III in fire alarms or a licensed professional engineer (PE) in Washington prior to being submitted for permitting. The reviewing professional shall submit a stamped, signed, and dated letter; … indicating the system has been reviewed and meets or exceeds the design requirements of the state of Washington and the local jurisdiction. Submittal Requirements
Duct smoke detectors shall be connected to the building’s fire alarm control unit when a fire alarm system is required by Section 907.2. [IFC 907.3.1]
To apply for an HVAC Duct Detector permit where a Fire Alarm System IS installed in the building, the following is required:
- Duct Detector Device specification sheets - Duct Detector
- HVAC Duct Detector Permit Application
- NICET Level III Letter - All construction documents shall be reviewed by a NICET III in fire alarms or a licensed professional engineer (PE) in Washington prior to being submitted for permitting. To apply for an HVAC Duct Detector permit where a Fire Alarm System is NOT installed in the building, the following is required:
- Floor plan indicating the proposed location of the annunciator panel. The panel must be wall mounted in a constantly attended location with audible, visual and trouble indicators.

Submittal Requirements
To apply for a fire sprinkler permit, you must have the following:
- System layout/floor plans (two copies if paper submittal)
- Hydraulic Calculations
- Device Specifications
- Review letter from a Fire Protection Engineer. Required if installing a new system or performing work that is related to an occupancy conversion.

Submittal Requirements
To apply for a kitchen hood suppression or a spray booth permit you must have the following:
- Floor plans or system layout (two copies if paper submittal) include location of new and existing equipment.
- Equipment specifications

Fire Permit Application Process:
The Fire Department requires permits to add, modify or remove fire protection systems.
- Submit a complete application package.
- Allow a minimum of two weeks for permit application processing and plan review.
- Inspections for permitted fire protection systems shall be requested by either utilizing our Fire Inspection Request Form, or, by calling the Fire Department Inspection Request line at 509-585-4352.
